You underestimate how close you are to massive success

"You underestimate how close you are to massive success". Those were the words uttered to me by Chat GPT when I felt like nothing was happening and maybeI am hitting some kind of dead end. The message could not have spoken to me with a greater impact, it spoke directly to my soul. If I think about it, I already have 20 paying customers. So why not ramp that up to 2000 customers, what's really changing? Nothing. I'm just selling lines of codes to 10x or 100x more people. It's not like airbnb, where I need to sign 100 more houses, refurnish them and 10x the scale of oeprations. It gives me a headache just thinking about it. No, I would be on the web as exact same lines of code as I am now. And that is an amazing thing. If I can do it with 20 people, I can do it with 2000 people with exactly the same set up. I just scale the server on heroku and that's it. It's absolutely insane when I think about it. And if I can grow the market to 10k people, that wou...

Marketing is the other half

Like peanut butter and jelly, marketing goes hand in hand with whatever business you're selling. In today's information age, marketing has been hyper-charged by constant connectivity. Users are on their smartphones all day while being exposed to advertisements. Even if one wants to listen to his favorite podcast, he can't finish the episode without going through embedded advertisements throughout. You could have one of the best products in the world, an iphone, and it will not sell at all if no one knows about it. Sure, word of mouth is a powerful thing, but how can one buy a product if he is not aware of its existence? Great product helps with the price per unit and conversion, marketing helps with the exposure. price (great product) x conversion rate (great product and marketing) x impression (views on the product, marketing) = revenue or simply product x marketing = revenue And great marketing is to maximize impression with the same budget. You want both great ma...

Act 3

I feel that I have entered a new chapter of my life. My upbringing was act 1, and my introduction into business was act 2, then my transformation into a SAAS entrepreneur is the beginning of my act 3. Act 1 was around 25 years, act 2 was 5 years, and now I have spent about 6 months as a SAAS entrepreneur. I feel that a lot more time has passed than it actually has, but yeah it's quite a lot of work. The difference with the airbnb business is that, with airbnb it's limited by things such as physical space and time, for the SAAS business, there's no such limitation. I can put into it as much time and effort as I desire. In the airbnb business, the business is determined by how many rooms I have and how much time has passed. How much work I put into it did not change the revenue. Whereas in this business, if I put in 100 hrs instead of 10 hrs into an app, I would see the difference in revenue. And I believe I met my technical co founder so I'm excited about that. It...

day 1

So I've been growing my app actively on social medias and learning the ropes of the basics in Marketing... I thought either something was wrong with the display count or there's been some miracle, because no one was cancelling their subscription. But after a quick prompt to gpt, it turns out even if users cancel, if it's during free trial, it only shows up after the trial is over, so that kind of throws a wrench on my plans... Sometimes I have a tendency to try and ignore negative facts.. I'll have to see how things turn out now but things may be harsher than I originally anticipated. I really need to make my app super useful or addictive. At the moment it's interesting enough for people to download but I haven't figured out the other piece of the puzzle, which is to keep users engaged... So perhaps I'm being pessimistic now but we'll see what happens. Also I'll only check the statistics on Mondays and Fridays, as it causes me too much dread to ...
